LE SOLEIL LEVANT, ARGELÈS-GAZOST

Using the same hotel as for the single centre guided holiday we also offer for small groups a week of self-guided walking. This allows you to explore the area at your own speed armed with good local information and a local contact. You will be able to use local public transport to explore beyond Argelès-Gazost with buses running all year round to Lourdes, Luz Saint Sauveur and Cauterets and from the beginning of June to the end of September to Gavarnie. In July and August there is also public transport up to the Pont d’Espagne via Cauterets.  For self-guided holidays we supply the following:

·         7 nights accommodation at Le Soleil Levant, 3 nights half-board & 4 nights Bed & Breakfast so that you can try out some of      the restaurants in the area.

·         Local town map with bus stops highlighted

·         Bus timetables

·         Detailed route notes for several local walks

·         Detailed route notes for several other walks including a half day circuit on the outskirts of Lourdes, linear walks up the main “Gave de Pau” valley and circular walks at Gavarnie.

·         Quality 25000 scale IGN maps which have dozens of other walking routes shown

·         24 hour local contact in case of problems

You will have to pay for the buses most of which are operated by the local regional council and cost 2€ per person per trip. Other buses that are operated for the railway company SNCF are more expensive but still reasonably priced.

As well as being the ideal base for a walking holiday the town of Argelès-Gazost is a charming spa town with plenty of shops, cafés & bars. There is also a public recreational & leisure spa opened in 2011, a public swimming pool and the possibility of hiring bicycles to explore the cycleway which follows the route of a disused railway line between Lourdes and Pierrefitte-Nestalas.
